César Sá
Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo, School of Education, since 1987. Currently serves as Coordinating Professor and is part of the disciplinary group for Teacher Education and Training.
Holds a PhD in Education Sciences, specializing in Training Systems, and a Master’s degree in Education Sciences, specializing in Teaching Methodologies, both from the University of Lisbon (2007 and 1995, respectively). Graduated in Physical Education from the Higher Institute of Physical Education of the Technical University of Lisbon in 1987.
Served as Director of the School of Education from 2015 to 2023 and President of the Pedagogical Council for two terms. Memberships include the IPVC General Council (2018–2023), the Scientific Council and Assembly of Representatives of ESEVC, and the Technical-Scientific Council of IPVC. Currently serves on the Scientific Council of ESEVC and, since 2024, chairs the Ethics Committee of the Centre for Research and Innovation in Education.
Professional activity includes teaching in initial, complementary, postgraduate, and advanced teacher education programmes; coordination of the Department of Human Motor Skills (1994–2002); direction of degree programmes (1995–2002 and 2006–2010); and coordination of the Master’s Degree in Pedagogical Supervision (2009–2020). Also served as visiting professor at the University of Minho.
Authorship and co-authorship include several scientific publications in specialized journals, along with regular activity as a scientific reviewer. Participation in various research projects with internal and external funding. Research interests focus on teacher education (theories, models, and systems; socialization and professional development; teacher educators; supervised teaching practice), pedagogical supervision, and physical education (pedagogy/didactics; motor learning).
Supervision includes multiple master’s theses and co-supervision of doctoral dissertations. Frequent speaker at courses, seminars, conferences, and congresses.
Integrated member of inED (Centre for Research and Innovation in Education) and collaborator at CIEC (Child Studies Research Centre).
External expert in the external evaluation of Schools/School Clusters for the Inspectorate-General for Education and Science since 2011.
