Isabel Amaral is a retired coordinating professor from Intituto Politécnico de Setúbal, where she developed and coordinated the Degree of Terapia da Fala from 2003 untill 2011.
She is a Speech Therapist and holds a PhD in Psychology in the area of Psicologia do Desenvolvimento e Educação.
She was a lecturer at the António Aurélio da Costa Ferreira Institute for Special Education Teacher Training from 1976 untill 1989. She later joined the teaching board of the Escola Superior de Educação of Lisbon, from 1989 until 2013, and has been participating in the training of Special Education teachers in the area communication and multi-disabilities problems.
SDhe is a consultant for the education of multi-disabled students in Eastern European Countries under the Perkins International Program and a guest lecturer at "Perkins International Academy", lecturing the three levels of training that compose the specialization in Multi-Disability and Visually Impaired at Perkins School for the Blind, Boston, USA.
Among her areas of interest are: a) Communication and Language, in particular non-verbal communication processes and the importance of language as a learning tool and, b) Curriculum Development for students with multi-disabilities and visual impairment
