Maria João Vidal Alves


Psychologist and senior technician at the Faculty of Medicine of the UP, has a master's degree in Forensic Sciences, specializing in Gender Equality (2017) and Legal Medicine (2007). Has developed works in the area of ​​abuse of children and young people, trauma-informed care in the care of victims, impact of trauma in childhood, and has training in early intervention programs, as well as parental training (Incredible Years© Program). PhD student in Forensic Sciences at the University of Murcia, Spain, is an invited assistant at the University Institute of Health Sciences (IUCS), CESPU, CRL, and Catholic University of Portugal. Founding member of SPECAN, member of APCF and volunteer psychologist at SOMA surf São Tomé. Researcher in the Social Epidemiology Group at ITR Lab - Laboratory for Integrative and Translational Research in Population Health.


Main research areas: violence in intimate relationships, corporal punishment of children, adverse childhood experiences, forensic communication with victims of trauma, workplace violence and burnout.
